A short guide to maintaining your used car

If you're attentive with your car, it can easily last you in excess of 200,000 miles. Just because you buy a used motor from reputable retailer like, car dealers Evans Halshaw doesn't mean you should overlook any of its day-to-day demands. Since your car should come with the owner's manual, there is a section that will list its service requirements, whether divided by miles or a period of time. If service records aren't available to hand and you have no way of knowing what was done and when, your best bet is to reset the car's maintenance cycle to zero and have a pre-purchase inspection, followed by an audit of any parts that look like they are about to fail. On top of this, take a look at your owner's manual and see what service is recommended for the mileage the car has done, or its age. From here, be sure to also drain all fluids out of the car and have them replaced, alongside any filters that go with them. Check the air filter and ensure it's clean and if it is dirty, replace this too. By doing this, you'll know exactly how to sort out these vital liquids and start your new replacement schedule from here. Meanwhile, drive with the radio off every now and again to check that everything sounds like it's in tip-top shape. Always keep an eye on the way the car feels when it's travelling at any speed, ensuring that speed and handling are in tune so you'll know if wheels need rebalancing, or if brakes or suspension are deteriorating. Putting off repairs you judge to be "minor" could land you with a hefty bill, too. You must get into the habit of giving the car what it needs as soon as possible, protecting yourself from excessive repair costs. Besides, cars that are fixed at every opportunity are the most efficient ones in terms of fuel consumption, so you'll be saving plenty of money in the long run. Check for leaks in fluids, whether it's for the brakes, radiator, or general oil - these can be fatal if you don't do anything about them. Of course, you'll want to keep tyres inflated to their correct pressure, otherwise you could be losing grip, handling and extra mileage every time you fill up. Of course, keep everything clean, as much for your own comfort as anything else. Your used car will keep giving and you will form a great partnership with it. Just treat it well and you'll have fewer problems down the line!
